The Colonel is the sixteenth episode of the third season. First aired on ABC in the United States on February 9, 1994.

Synopsis[]

Jill's father, the Army colonel visits, with a book he wrote about his experiences in the Army. He's hoping Jill will like it enough to give it to her friends for publishing. However, Tim and Jill find the book very tedious and boring, but Jill doesn't know how to explain the truth to her father. Tim tries to help her, by offering some constructive criticism about the book, but the Colonel shoots it down without a second thought. Jill initially tells her father that she liked the book, much to Tim's dismay, but when the Colonel is prepared to go to the publisher with it, she's forced to tell the truth. The Colonel is disappointed about both Jill's opinion, and her previous dishonesty, but the two eventually come to terms.

Meanwhile, Tim builds a hockey puck shooter when Randy becomes a goalie.

Trivia[]

At the beginning of the first scene, Tim and Al are sitting in chairs on a shoe shiner's station. Tim holds up cards with other uses of the word "shoe." As he stands up from the chair to step down from the platform, he tries to put the cards next to the chair leg, but they fall from the edge of the platform to the studio floor. A few shots later, when Al dances the soft shoe, the cards can be seen on the platform next to the chair leg.
